All new students entering the University without prior University transfer credit are required to take an online placement assessment test. The University’s role in the administration of the test is exclusively and strictly limited to facilitating access to the online examination for applicants to the University and subsequently using examination results to determine students’ readiness for University-level coursework in certain critical skills areas.
Our assessments provide students and their advisors with useful information about an individual’s academic skills in mathematics, English and reading. The results of the assessment, in conjunction with a student’s academic background, goals and interests, are used by academic advisors to determine a student’s initial course selection during the first few sessions of study. Placement tests are “pass” or “fail”. However, it is very important that students do their best on these tests so the University has an accurate measure of a student’s academic skills.
Students who score below 80 on the English placement examination or below 57 on the mathematics placement examination are required to take transitional coursework to increase their level of preparation for university-level courses.
